Looking for a full-time, (very) well-paid associateship where you can work with children and make a difference? This community pediatric dental clinic needs YOU! Pediatric experience is preferred, but not mandatory, as the senior dentist is happy to mentor!
This non-profit clinic started as a small practice with one operatory, donated equipment, and volunteers doing renovations. Today, it's grown into a 6-operatory, fully equipped, modern dental practice providing much-needed and appreciated dental care for almost 4,000 children throughout the local area.
You’ll thrive with hands-on mentorship from the senior dentist and work with fantastic patients in a mission-driven practice. Enjoy great benefits and input about your schedule. Ideally, you’ll want to get involved in this fantastic, welcoming Maine community.
The founder explains, “I feel drawn toward helping those in need and I believe that the desire to help people through dentistry is in a sense a calling. As such, in my 19th year of private practice as a general dentist (2011), I decided I needed to try to serve patients who were invisible to those of us in private practice who were limiting the number of Medicaid patients we'd see, due to drastically low reimbursement levels. With my husband's help, we founded the clinic with a mission to provide a comprehensive, caring dental home for every child who needs one. I believe I have a responsibility to our communities and to the profession to use my knowledge and skills for the greater good, as those communities supported my private practice for so many years.”
“Having seen too much dental disease in so many little mouths, while knowing that PREVENTION is key, the clinic has a strong hygiene department. A goal is to instill prevention messages from the very beginning of the lifespan, in infancy, and even prenatally. Dentistry is an honorable yet humbling profession. I enjoy planting seeds to encourage young people to consider a career in dentistry. I also appreciate any opportunity to share knowledge and past clinical experiences with newer grads.”
The entire team shares this mission, and the clinic thrives on their united efforts. The founder says, “We strive to greet each day with positive energy, starting with our morning team meetings and ending with a group effort clean-up. We enjoy team luncheons and occasional get-togethers outside of work to boost morale.”
This state-of-the-art facility has numerous equipment updates, and four of the six operatories include piped-in nitrous oxide. The office décor is geared towards kids to create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Each operatory offers a fun theme that helps children feel less nervous as soon as they sit in the chair. From Moana to hot air balloons to Finding Nemo, there is something inviting for children of all ages.
The practice is located on a prominent street, a few doors away from the local hospital. Ample off-street parking accommodates patients and staff.
The clinic hosts an annual Festival of Trees, with up to 60 trees contributed and decorated by local businesses and organizations. The trees are gift-laden, often according to a theme chosen by the tree sponsor, with items as simple as kitchen needs (including a Kitchen Aid mixer) to snow blowers and lawn mowers! People from across the region come to view the trees and purchase raffle tickets to try to win a tree. This is the clinic’s biggest fundraiser by far and is a meaningful event in bringing communities together to support the mission.
You’ll enjoy all four seasons in northern Maine’s Aroostook County, known as the Crown of Maine. Your year-round adventures can include berry picking and lake days in summer, hiking and potato harvesting in fall, skiing and snowshoeing in winter, and maple syrup tapping in spring.
Downtown Presque Isle offers a small city character with several Main Street shops, including an independent bookstore, a jewelry store, a bike shop, and an ice cream stand. Presque Isle and neighboring towns offer impressive school systems, safe neighborhoods, active recreational departments, and many team sports opportunities. Kids love the splash pad to beat the summer heat, and everyone uses the tennis courts and other sports facilities. The community is welcoming to new families and includes many well-known churches.
Presque Isle is home to a university, a community college, a regional airport, and several agricultural farms and businesses. Local organizations are making great strides in reviving life on Main Street and recognizing young achievers in the community.
